Learn How to Change Your Age on Roblox

Understanding Roblox Age Settings and Account Information

Your Roblox account contains several pieces of personal information, including your birthdate. When you first create a Roblox account, the platform asks you to provide your date of birth. This information serves important purposes within the Roblox ecosystem. The age associated with your account determines what content you can see, what features you can use, and what safety restrictions apply to you. Roblox uses this information to comply with laws that protect younger users online, such as the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States.

The age shown on your Roblox account influences several aspects of your experience. Players under 13 years old have more restrictive chat features, cannot access certain games, and have different privacy settings than older players. Players aged 13 and older have access to a broader range of games and social features. Understanding how Roblox uses age information helps explain why changing this setting exists as an option in your account settings. The age setting is different from your actual birth year — it's a data field stored in Roblox's systems that reflects what you entered during account creation.

Many players need to update their age information for legitimate reasons. Some players may have entered incorrect information when creating their accounts, especially if they were very young at the time. Others may have turned 13 and need to update their account to reflect their current age status. Some international players may need to adjust the age setting when relocating to different regions with different age-related content restrictions. Understanding that this is a normal administrative function can help you navigate the process.

Takeaway: Before changing your age on Roblox, understand that this setting controls what features and games you can see and use, and that accurate information ensures you have appropriate access to content meant for your age group.

Locating Age Settings in Your Account Dashboard

The first step in changing your age on Roblox involves finding the correct settings menu within your account. When you log into your Roblox account on a web browser or the Roblox app, you'll need to navigate to your account settings. On the web version, look for the gear icon or settings option, typically found in the upper right corner of the page. This icon usually appears near where your username or profile picture displays. Clicking this opens a dropdown menu with several options, one of which should be labeled "Settings" or "Account Settings." This is the gateway to modifying your account information.

Within the Settings menu, you'll find various tabs organized by category. These typically include sections like "Account Info," "Password," "Email," "Billing," and "Privacy." The age information is usually found under the "Account Info" tab, sometimes labeled as "Personal Information" or similar terminology. On mobile devices using the Roblox app, the process is similar but the layout may be slightly different. You'll still look for a settings icon, usually three horizontal lines (called a hamburger menu) or a gear icon, and then navigate to account settings from there.

When you first open your account information section, you should see your username, email address, and importantly, your date of birth or age displayed. This information is presented in a format that shows what Roblox currently has recorded for your account. Some account settings show a "Change" or "Edit" button next to each field, while others require you to click on the specific information field itself to modify it. Take time to locate exactly where your birthdate information appears on your screen, as this varies slightly depending on whether you're using a computer, tablet, or phone.

Takeaway: Spend time familiarizing yourself with your account dashboard and locating the account information section before attempting to make changes, as understanding the layout prevents confusion during the process.

The Process of Updating Your Birthdate Information

Once you've located your age or birthdate information within your account settings, you're ready to update it. Click on the birthdate field or the "Change" button associated with it. This action should open a text entry area or a date picker interface where you can input your new information. Some Roblox interfaces display a calendar picker where you select the month, day, and year separately using dropdown menus or clickable options. Other interfaces may present a text field where you type the date directly. Pay attention to the format Roblox expects — it may ask for MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY depending on your region.

When entering your new birthdate, be precise and accurate. Enter the correct month, day, and year of birth. Double-check your entry before confirming the change, as errors in this information can cause complications with your account access or content restrictions. Some users make mistakes by entering the wrong year or confusing month and day order, so carefully review the numbers you've entered. If you notice an error after beginning the process, most interfaces allow you to clear the field and re-enter the correct information before submitting.

After entering your new birthdate, look for a "Save," "Confirm," or "Update" button. This button finalizes your change and stores the new information in Roblox's systems. Roblox may display a confirmation message indicating that your change was successful. Some accounts require you to verify additional information, such as confirming your email address or entering your password as a security measure, before the age change is finalized. This is a normal security procedure designed to prevent unauthorized changes to account information. Complete any additional verification steps that appear on your screen.

Takeaway: Enter your information carefully, verify it matches the correct format, and complete any security verification steps before considering the update finalized.

Age-Related Features and Content Access After Changes

Changing your age on Roblox has direct consequences for the features available to you on the platform. If you change your age from under 13 to 13 or older, you'll notice that your account suddenly has access to different games, expanded chat options, and additional social features. Games that were previously restricted from your account become available to play. Chat features that were previously limited to quick messages with approved friends may expand to include more open communication options. This is because Roblox implements these restrictions to comply with COPPA and similar laws protecting younger users.

The reverse situation also applies — if you lower your age on your account to under 13, you'll find that certain games become inaccessible and chat features become more restricted. This might seem counterintuitive if you're trying to access content, but Roblox maintains these restrictions automatically once your age is changed. Some games on Roblox have specific age requirements set by their creators, separate from Roblox's system-wide age restrictions. When your account age changes, you may suddenly find that games you previously played are no longer showing up in your recommendations or are blocked from launching.

Understanding these feature changes helps explain why accurately setting your age matters. If you change your age incorrectly, you might find yourself unable to access games you want to play or unable to communicate with friends in the way you're accustomed to. Some players have reported that changing their age caused them to lose access to games they had previously joined or progress they had made. For this reason, it's worth considering whether you truly need to change your age or if there's an alternative solution. Roblox does have restrictions in place for good reasons related to child safety online.

Takeaway: Recognize that changing your age will alter what games you can play and what features you can use, and weigh whether the change is truly necessary for your needs.

Troubleshooting Common Issues and Limitations

Players sometimes encounter limitations when attempting to change their age on Roblox. One common issue is that certain accounts cannot change their age at all, particularly accounts that are quite old or accounts created under specific circumstances. This is a deliberate Roblox policy — the platform has rules about when age information can be modified. Generally, if your account has been restricted from changing its age, Roblox may require you to contact their customer support team to discuss your situation. This can take several days or longer to resolve, so patience is necessary.

Another frequent issue involves accounts created by younger users who set an incorrect birthdate. If you created your account when you were very young and entered a fake or incorrect birthdate, you may find that Roblox won't let you change it to the correct information later. This is a security measure to prevent fraud and misuse of accounts. Additionally, once you change your age to 13 or older, Roblox may have additional verification requirements if you later try to change it back to under 13, as this change could indicate account compromise or unauthorized access.
