Community Health Centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in Green Bay
Federally Qualified Health Centers operate throughout Wisconsin, including in the Green Bay area. These centers receive federal funding and are required to serve patients regardless of their ability to pay. They typically offer sliding-scale fees, meaning your cost depends on your household income and family size. While not all FQHCs offer dental implants specifically, many provide comprehensive dental services including extractions, cleanings, and basic restorative work that may be necessary before implant placement.

The Green Bay area is served by several community health organizations that provide dental services. One major provider is Community Health Plan of Wisconsin, which serves low-income populations. Additionally, Aurora Health Care operates multiple dental clinics throughout Brown County. These facilities often have relationships with specialists, including periodontists and oral surgeons who perform implant procedures.
When contacting FQHCs, you can learn about their fee structures and what dental services they provide directly versus what they refer out to specialists. Some centers maintain lists of specialty providers who offer reduced rates to their patients. This can create a pathway to more affordable implant care by establishing your relationship with the primary health center first.
FQHCs in Wisconsin are required to offer services to all patients who need them, but the specific services available vary by location. Some centers focus primarily on preventive and basic care, while others have expanded services. Calling ahead to ask about dental implant services or referrals gives you specific information rather than making assumptions about what each center provides.
Many FQHCs also have social workers or patient advocates on staff who understand how different financing programs work. These staff members can explain payment options and may know about additional resources in the community. Some centers participate in special programs that reduce implant costs for specific populations, such as senior citizens or veterans.
Practical Takeaway: Contact the Aurora Health Care dental clinics in Green Bay and ask specifically whether they offer sliding-scale fees for dental implant procedures or if they have referral relationships with providers who do. Request information about their fee structure in writing so you can compare options.
Dental School Programs and Training Clinics
Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, approximately 140 miles south of Green Bay, operates a dental clinic where graduate students complete their training under faculty supervision. Dental school clinics typically charge significantly less than private practices because students provide the care as part of their education. A dental implant procedure at a teaching clinic might cost 40 to 60 percent less than at a private practice, though the appointments take longer.

While Marquette's main campus is in Milwaukee, some dental schools have satellite clinics or partnerships with communities throughout Wisconsin. It is worth contacting Marquette's admissions or clinic office to ask whether they have any Green Bay-area partnerships or whether they accept patients from the Green Bay region at their main clinic. Other Wisconsin dental schools, such as those associated with the University of Wisconsin system, may also have information about reduced-cost implant services.
Dental school clinics operate on specific schedules, often with longer wait times between appointments than private practices. Procedures may require multiple visits spread over several months. The tradeoff is reduced cost in exchange for longer treatment timelines and student clinicians working under supervision. The quality of care is generally high because faculty dentists oversee all student work, but you should understand the pace before committing to this option.
Contacting dental schools involves asking about their clinical programs, patient requirements, scheduling, and costs. Some schools require patients to attend an informational session or consultation before accepting them into the program. Others have geographic restrictions about how far patients can live from the school. These details vary, so gathering information from each school directly is necessary.
In addition to Marquette University, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health has dental education programs. Contacting the UW School of Medicine's dental programs office can provide information about whether they offer reduced-cost implant services through student clinics. Some affiliated community health organizations in Green Bay may also partner with dental education programs.
Practical Takeaway: Call Marquette University School of Dentistry's clinic office at their main number and ask about reduced-cost implant services for Green Bay residents. Request information about typical timelines, costs, and what the application process involves so you can compare it to other options in your area.
